The Route
The current plan for the ride is about 1500 miles, 13 days, 115 miles a day average, 7-8 hours a day, 15-16 MPH avg. Of course this is all tentative and it will vary daily based on terrain, weather, and how far into the ride I am.
Section 1: Jacksonville, FL - Statesboro, GA
The route begins in Jacksonville, FL and progresses north across the Georgia border. Once through Georgia, the ride passes through Atkinson and reaches Statesboro, GA. Most of the terrain is rolling or flat along the Atlantic Coast of Florida and Georgia.
Section 2: Statesboro, GA - Wilmington, NC
This section begins in Statesboro, GA and continues north through South Carolina. The route passes through Andrews, SC and Conway, SC nearing Myrtle Beach. Briefly after reaching North Carolina, this section ends in Wilmington, NC. The terrain consists of some rolling hills in Georgia and is essentially flat the rest of the way.
Section 3: Wilmington, NC - Richmond, VA
This section begins in Wilmington, NC and continues north through Aurora, NC. The route continues along the Atlantic Coast until it reaches Richmond, VA. The terrain throughout North Carolina is predominantly level and it progresses to rolling hills in Virginia.
Section 4: Richmond, VA - Norristown, PA
This section begins in Richmond, VA and continues north to Washington D.C. Then the route passes through Baltimore, MD and reaches Norristown, PA. The terrain through Richmond and Washington D.C. is mostly rolling, with a few steep hills. As the route progresses through Maryland and Pennsylvania there are a few short, steep descents.
Section 5: Norristown, PA - Windsor Locks, CT
This section begins in Norristown, PA and continues north to Poughkeepsie, NY. Then the route progresses east into New England. The route finally reach Windsor Locks, CT; Just south of the final destination in Holliston, MA. The terrain becomes hillier throughout the Hudson River Valley of New York and in Connecticut.
Section 6: Windsor Locks, CT - Holliston, MA
This section begins in Windsor Locks, CT and continues north through Oxford, MA. Then route then turns east and reaches Holliston, MA which concludes the ride. The majority of the terrain throughout Connecticut and Massachusetts is hilly.
